The Cats maintain an active e-mail list, which we use to send shameless promotional junk to our fans. Send us your name and e-mail address to get added to our list! Those e-mails contain our latest updates, but if you're curious, some of our old archived updates are below.
04/02/01: WOW! WHAT A PARTY!!! - What can we say...we're blown away! About 900 enthusiastic swingers of all ages showed up for our rowdy CD release party at historic Sokol Auditorium in Omaha, Neb. on the evening of April 1. The standing room-only crowd enjoyed a truly inspired set by the Cats, and the full treatment of a fantastic light/sound display, as well as a full camera crew from NETV, documenting it all for posterity. A heartfelt THANK YOU to all of our fans, friends and family who came out to help us celebrate. We love ya, and we hope you enjoy the new CD as much as we enjoyed making it for you!
03/29/01: WEB UPDATE - prairiecats.com has received a basic spit-'n-polish job, in preparation for next week's release of the new CD, "'til the daytime fades." New graphics, smoother fonts and updates all over the place. More additions (song lyrics, soundfiles, etc) coming soon. Enjoy, lurkers...
02/28/01: IT'S COMING! - And it's even bigger than "The Big One!" The CD release party for the Cats' new CD, 'Til the Daytime Fades, has been set for April 1, 2001. We can't wait for you to get your mitts on the new disc...we know you'll love it as much as we do. For full CD party details, visit our Gigs page.
10/04/00: STUDIO CATS - It's official: the Cats are heading back into the studio to record the follow-up to their successful debut CD, "The Big One!" Beginning this month (October), the Cats will once again be laying down tracks at the Warehouse in Omaha (under the watchful eye of our good friend Jim Homan). We plan to have the album finished and in your greedy mitts by early March, 2001. Keep checking back at this site, for "sneak peek" MP3s and sound files as we get 'em done!
06/29/00: CATS RETURN! - Prairie Cats return from their mini-tour of the western U.S. What a great time! Read about it in our saucy online road journal (HTML or Word doc format), or view our plethora of pictures on our Pics page. 03/17/00: CATS AT SXSW! - The Cats rocked the house at the South By Southwest festival in Austin! After being chosen for the exclusive festival, the Cats traveled to Austin to play at the swanky Caucus Club in downtown Austin, on Friday night (St. Patrick's Day, at midnight!). The club was packed (the club's capacity is 280, and the place was filled up at midnight with 20-30 folks lined up outside the door) and the vibe was great! Check out photos of the Cats performance! (UPDATE, 7/9/00: Unfortunately, ClubcastLive.com has gone belly-up, so streaming audio of our SXSW performance is no longer available...SORRY! - p-cat jg) We could have done without the 14.5 hour drive to and from Austin (especially with $1.50 gasoline), but it was well worth it.
02/13/00: IT'S ALL TIED UP! - Yes, Prairie Cats claim the hotspot of Omaha, Neb., as our homebase. But for those keeping track, the ratio of Nebraska Cats to Iowa Cats is now 50/50! Kevin Linder, of Sioux City, IA, has joined the Cat ranks, stepping into the trumpeting shoes of Jim Larson. Say "hi" to Kevin the next time you see us on stage...he's the friendly sort!
02/11/00: "MUSCLECHEEKS" MOVES ON - Jim Larson, an original P-Cat and awe-inspiring trumpet force, has decided to leave Prairie Cats to pursue other interests. Those who know the band are well-aware of what Jim has meant to us...so join us in wishing him the best. Thanks Jim, and we'll miss ya!
02/11/00: DERBY 'N TROUT - OK, so if you're a swinger worth your salt, you've probably seen THE definitive neo-swing movie: SWINGERS. Remember the swing club in it? Where Big Bad Voodoo Daddy played? Well, the Cats will be there. Saturday, June 24, the Cats will make the big trip to Los Angeles, CA, to grace the stage at the Derby! (we're working on other dates for a possible mini-tour during that week...stay tuned!) Also, we're happy to announce that Prairie Cats will be the featured artist on Trout Tunes, a cool radio show on 106.9 The City in Omaha, 8 p.m.-midnight on Sunday, March 5. Super-DJ Ryan O'Connor will be playing exclusive live Cats tracks, a recorded interview and album cuts...listen in, won't ya?!?!?! 01/10/00: '99 HONORS - The Cats received some nice recognition in a few "best of '99" lists, worth mentioning. "Jump Start Jane," a rockin' track from our CD, "The Big One," was included in "The Best of Swanktown - 1999" (click here for complete list) Swanktown is an excellent radio and online swing show based in Minneapolis...check out the list...some great company! Thanks, Swanktown! The Cats also received votes as "best local band of '99," as chosen by Omaha World-Herald and Omaha.com readers. Thanks, all! 01/05/00: NEW YEAR, NEW TUNES - Happy New Year from the Cats! We're unveiling a swingin' new chunk of musical goodness this week. Three new originals, plus a few Louis Jordan covers (can you ever have too many???) You can view our growing tunelist in our Cat Tunes section. We're excited for you to hear the new stuff...so come on out and see us, won't ya?
12/07/99: BRAND NEW CAT! - Stop the presses...there's a new P-Cat in our midst. Ladies and gents, give a warm welcome to the new Cat on the block, Mr. Craig Crilly, straight outta Red Oak (Iowa). Craig will handle sax chores (and probably lots of other stuff) from here on out, following the departure of the lovely Amy Stickney from our ranks. So say "HI" to Craig the next time you see the Cats on stage...he'll shake his groove thang for you, the people, if you beg loudly enough... 11/26/99: P-KITTEN PROWLS ON - Amy Stickney, P-Cat saxmaster and lone kitten in our band of ugly cats, has decided to leave the band at the end of the year, to concentrate on school. As our friends/fans know, Amy has been a HUGE part of the P-Cat revolution over the past 14 months, and we will miss her dearly (sniff...sob). Still, we will persevere, and the Cat madness must continue. We'll announce a new P-Cat soon... 11/15/99: RADIO FREE OMAHA - The Cats are getting significant spins on the new 106.9 The City radio station. Support 'em! But of course, you should also support 89.7 The River, Z-92 and the other area stations spinning the Cats. Thanks, all! 11/03/99 (newsflash...the lazy Cats finally update their News section!)
8/3/99: #1 IN THE BIG-O: "THE BIG ONE!" - Soundscan of NYC, New York, is reporting that Prairie Cats' "The Big One" is the #1-selling CD at Homers stores in the Omaha market for the week of Aug. 2, with more than 325 units sold in the album's first recorded week of sales in late July. Thanks, Omaha!!!
8/3/99: "THE BIG ONE!" GOES GLOBAL! - It's official...Prairie Cats' debut CD, "The Big One," was released worldwide on Tuesday, Aug. 3, by Hepcat Records in Orange, Calif. The CD is available at select retail outlets across the U.S. and in Japan and Europe, or online from Hepcat Records. Pick it up today! 7/18/99: "THE BIG ONE!" HITS OMAHA! - Wow, what a party! A crowd of almost 750 swingers helped the Cats celebrate the release of their debut CD, "The Big One," at Omaha's Sokol Auditorium. Joined by friends and family (young and old) galore, the Cats partied with Omaha jazzman Luigi Waites, the swing stylings of Lindy Hoppers Local 402, celebrity emcees Free Beer and Hotwings from 89.7 the River, and hundreds of bowls of popcorn, Gardettos and animal crackers! All of this was followed by a rambunctious -- but bittersweet -- post-party at Omaha's incomparable Stork Club, which was open for its final day of business on that same day (a rousing send-off for a GREAT establishment). All in all, a good time was had by everyone! Thanks to all!!!
7/99: "THE BIG ONE" IS COMING! - At long last...the day is nigh! The Cats will rock Sunday, July 18, at their CD release party celebrating their debut album, "The Big One!" Sokol Auditorium will host the event, which starts at 5 p.m. and will feature special guest Luigi Waites. 7/99: HEPCAT TO DISTRIBUTE "THE BIG ONE!" - It's official...independent juggernaut Hepcat Records, from Orange Calif., will distribute and promote Prairie Cats' debut CD! The album will be released for retail worldwide on August 3 (it will be available locally in Omaha on July 18, and at Cats live shows). Viva Hepcat!!! 7/99: LISTEN UP! - Cats MP3s are online! Fire up your MP3 player and head to our Cat Tunes page to hear tunes from our upcoming CD, "The Big One!" You heard 'em here first! 7/99: NEW WEB HOME - Behold, our brand-spankin' new website design! We streamlined things considerably, while jazzing up some stuff. Hope you like it!
